Tokyo Train Blackout Disrupts Hundreds of Thousands of Passengers

A blackout on Tokyo's railway network caused significant disruption on Friday, affecting hundreds of thousands of passengers. The incident occurred during the morning commute, resulting in the suspension of services on two of the city's main lines.

According to reports, the fire that caused the blackout appears to have started from a short circuit in a transformer near Tamachi Station. The Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku lines of East Japan Railway were taken out of service, affecting approximately 673,000 passengers.

Footage broadcast by NTV showed passengers being evacuated on foot from the trains, with the assistance of firefighters and railway staff. JR East announced that the failure to restore power during maintenance work was the cause of the problem.
