Air India Crash: Sabotage Suspected in AI171 Flight?

Investigations are underway into the crash of Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, flight AI171, which resulted in 260 fatalities, shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad en route to London.

The sole survivor, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, is a British national. The Indian Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has recovered the black boxes. Captain Sumit Sabharwal reported loss of thrust before the crash.

Sabotage or contaminated fuel is being investigated. Indian Civil Aviation Minister Murlidhar Mohol confirmed the sabotage scenario is under investigation. The final report is expected in September.

The tragedy is the deadliest in India in the last decade. 19 people were killed on the ground. British authorities are closely monitoring the investigations.
