100ml Liquid Limit on Planes to End: What's Changing

The 100ml liquid restriction for hand luggage may be abolished at European Union airports. According to a new regulation, which is expected to be approved, airports with advanced scanners will allow the transport of liquids up to two liters.
However, the non-mandatory installation of these scanners may cause confusion among passengers, as the 100ml limit will apply again in case of return from an airport without a scanner.
Airports such as Berlin, Rome, Amsterdam and Milan already have the appropriate equipment. The new scanners use computed tomography (CT) for increased accuracy, allowing passengers to no longer remove items such as laptops and tablets from their hand luggage.
European Commission spokeswoman Anna-Kaisa Itkonen said they expect confirmation of the decision "in the coming days." Once the equipment receives ECAC approval, it can be used at airports.
