Pilot Surprises Grandmother on Flight: 'She Had No Idea'

A heartwarming reunion unfolded on an American Airlines flight when pilot Justin Surdz surprised his grandmother, Carolyn, who was unaware that her grandson was flying the plane.

Surdz arranged the surprise in coordination with the airline, swapping one of his scheduled flights for the one Carolyn was taking to Las Vegas. Carolyn was traveling to Utah for the first time and had no idea her grandson was the pilot.

At the beginning of the flight, Surdz welcomed passengers and shared the story of his grandmother and grandfather, who raised him in Memphis. When Carolyn realized her grandson was the pilot, she burst into tears and ran to embrace him.

Surdz attributed his achievements to the support of his grandparents. Surdz's grandfather passed away in April but had flown with his grandson in a small plane years ago.
