A catamaran carrying 55 passengers from the cruise ship Mein Schiff 1 sank in the Caribbean, near the Dominican Republic. The incident occurred during a day trip to Samana Bay.

Reports indicate that the 12-meter boat, named Boca de Yuma, suddenly began to sink. The Dominican Navy rescued the passengers, who were found in the water. Residents of the El Cruzero area also participated in the rescue operation.

All passengers were rescued and returned to the cruise ship. One passenger told the German network RTL that the passengers received no care from the cruise ship staff. TUI Cruises, which operates the Mein Schiff 1, confirmed that the catamaran belonged to an external provider.

The port authorities of the Dominican Republic are investigating the incident.
