Robotaxi Falls into Ditch in China: Safety Concerns Rise

A robotaxi operated by Baidu fell into a construction ditch in Chongqing, China, raising concerns about the safety of autonomous vehicles. The incident occurred on Wednesday, according to Reuters.
The female passenger was uninjured and rescued by passersby. Videos on social media show the Apollo Go robotaxi tilted inside the ditch. A local shopkeeper reported that warning signs were present, but the vehicle's systems apparently failed to detect them.
Baidu operates the largest fleet of autonomous vehicles in China and is expanding its services. A similar incident involved a Pony.ai vehicle in Beijing, while Tesla has launched a robotaxi service in Texas with safety drivers.
Tesla faces challenges, as a recent court ruling requires them to pay damages for an accident involving a vehicle operating on autopilot.
