OpenAI: Reasons for Kaitlin Kalinowski's Resignation

Kaitlin Kalinowski, former head of robotics at OpenAI, resigned due to disagreements regarding the use of artificial intelligence to monitor American citizens without judicial oversight. Her resignation followed OpenAI's decision to enter into an agreement with the US government for military and domestic surveillance purposes, using ChatGPT.

Kalinowski expressed concerns about AI's ability to make autonomous life-and-death decisions without human intervention. She stated that the agreement was made hastily, without safeguards for human rights and privacy.

OpenAI's decision comes after Anthropic refused to comply with a government request for unlimited use of Claude by the US military. Donald Trump criticized Anthropic, while US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth accused the company of betrayal.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that the agreement includes a clause prohibiting the use of OpenAI's systems for the surveillance of American citizens.
