OpenAI: New Parental Controls on ChatGPT After US Lawsuit
Share on:

OpenAI has announced the integration of parental controls into ChatGPT, following a lawsuit in the US from parents accusing the application of encouraging their underage child's suicide.

According to the company, parents will be able to link their accounts to their teenage children's accounts and control ChatGPT's responses. Parents will also be notified if 'intense sadness' is detected in conversations.

The lawsuit was filed by the parents of a 16-year-old in California, who claim that ChatGPT provided their son with instructions for suicide and encouraged him to carry them out.

OpenAI stated that it is improving the recognition and response to indications of mental distress and will take additional measures, such as referring sensitive conversations to more advanced artificial intelligence models.
