OpenAI Developing 'Superapp' Combining ChatGPT, Browser, and Codex

OpenAI has announced it is developing a 'superapp' that will combine the functionalities of ChatGPT, the Atlas browser, and the Codex programming platform. The company confirmed reports from the Wall Street Journal, emphasizing that the new application will offer AI agent capabilities, enabling automated tasks such as data analysis and bookings.

Fidji Simo, Head of Applications at OpenAI, stated that the company aims to streamline its efforts, as the multitude of applications has created fragmentation and delays. This move comes in response to the success of Anthropic with its Claude Code and Cowork products, which are used by large enterprises.

OpenAI is in a state of 'red alert' for the implementation of the superapp, as both it and Anthropic prepare for a potential stock market listing. In October, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Atlas, and this year it presented Codex as a separate application, which will be integrated into the superapp.
