CPT Upgrades Electric Bus Charging Station with Photovoltaics and Energy Storage

Cyprus Public Transport (CPT) has completed the installation of a photovoltaic charging station for electric vehicles with integrated energy storage, in collaboration with Ecotricity Holdings Ltd and Huawei Greece.
The infrastructure was developed within the framework of the “EMS4PVBEV” project, in collaboration with the Photovoltaic Technology Laboratory of the University of Cyprus, and combines solar energy production, energy storage and electric vehicle charging.
The HUAWEI Smart String Energy Storage System (LUNA2000-97kWh), with a capacity of 97 kWh, was installed at CPT's facilities in Geri, Nicosia. The system was put into operation on May 15, 2025, after inspection by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus.
Andreas Dimitriades, Director of Technology and Innovation at CPT, stated that this progress marks a significant step towards a smarter and more efficient transport network with environmental responsibility.
The EMS4PVBEV project is funded by the EU's Recovery and Resilience Facility through the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation.
