Egypt Bans Access to Roblox Gaming Platform

Egypt has joined the list of countries blocking access to the online gaming platform Roblox, with the regulatory authority citing reasons for protecting minors.
Roblox has already been banned in several countries, including Russia, Qatar, Turkey, and Iraq.
The ban in Egypt followed calls from senators for stricter control of the platform, due to content deemed violent or inappropriate for children. Senator Walaa Hermes warned of potential impacts such as anxiety, bullying, and incitement to violence.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had called for stricter legislation to protect children from the risks associated with mobile phone use.
A Roblox representative stated that the company wishes to discuss the matter with the Egyptian authorities to restore access to the game.
The Roblox platform, developed by Roblox Corporation, allows users to create and share games. It is popular among minors, with approximately 150 million daily users. In 2024, four out of ten users were under 13 years old.
The platform has been criticized for inadequate protection of minor users, but the company has announced new security measures and an age verification system.
