Maria Sakkari lost to Donna Vekic 2-0 (6-2, 6-3) in the first round of the tournament in Monterrey, Mexico.

The Greek tennis player, ranked 62nd in the world, now turns her attention to the US Open, which begins on August 24.

Vekic, ranked No. 55, broke early in both sets, securing her spot in the round of 16. This was Vekic's 7th victory over Sakkari in 11 encounters (7-4).

In the 2nd round of Monterrey, Vekic will face Elise Mertens, No. 5 in the bracket.
