Stefanos Tsitsipas was defeated by Daniel Altmaier with a score of 7-6(5), 1-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, resulting in his elimination from the second round of the US Open. The match lasted 4 hours and 26 minutes.

Despite scoring 72 winners, 65 unforced errors and the inability to capitalize on break points in the final set cost Tsitsipas the victory. Altmaier started strong, breaking in the first game, but Tsitsipas responded by leveling the score to 2-2 and taking the set to a tie-break, where the German prevailed.

In the second set, Tsitsipas took a medical time-out and returned strongly, winning the set 6-1. In the third set, Tsitsipas broke and maintained the lead, winning the set 6-4. In the fourth set, Altmaier responded, winning 6-3. In the fifth set, Altmaier secured the victory with a 7-5 score.
