Stefanos Tsitsipas: Retirement Thoughts After US Open

Stefanos Tsitsipas revealed that he seriously considered retiring from tennis due to severe back pain he experienced in 2025. He stated that after the US Open, he couldn't walk for two days, leading him to contemplate his career's future.
"I was really scared after my loss at the US Open because of my back; I couldn't walk for two days. When things like that happen, you start rethinking the future of your career," Tsitsipas said.
The top Greek tennis player emphasized that he visited one of the world's leading sports doctors and is optimistic that he will overcome the problem. He also mentioned the new collaboration with his father, Apostolos Tsitsipas, stressing that communication between them is now much better.
"So far, everything is going great. I have no complaints. He is much better at communication," he noted.
Tsitsipas expressed hope that 2026 will be a year without injury problems and that he will be able to compete at the highest level.
