Trans athlete Niki Hiltz has criticized the International Federation's requirement for genetic testing of female athletes at the World Athletics Championships. Hiltz, a non-binary athlete, described the requirement as a 'slippery slope'.

World Athletics has adopted a new rule requiring genetic testing for athletes wishing to compete in the women's category, starting with the World Championships. The test detects the SRY gene, which is responsible for the development of male characteristics.

Hiltz, a US citizen, stated that they would undergo the test but expressed concerns about the precedent it sets. They called for prioritizing addressing issues such as 'abusive coaches' and 'doping allegations'.

Trans women who have experienced male puberty are currently banned by World Athletics from competing in women's events. The federation also requires athletes with high testosterone levels to take medication to lower them.
