Mattarella Calls for Respect of the Olympic Truce

Italian President Sergio Mattarella called for respect of the Olympic Truce at the opening of the 145th Session of the International Olympic Committee. The session took place four days before the start of the Winter Olympics «Milano-Cortina».
«Sport is a peaceful meeting, a testimony of brotherhood in conditions of noble competition,» Mattarella said at La Scala in Milan, stressing the opposition of sport to violence and the need for peace.
«We ask with persistent determination that the Olympic Truce be respected everywhere... We ask that the truce of sport silence the weapons,» the Italian president added.
