Turkey: Illegal Betting Scandal Involves 1,024 Football Players

An illegal betting scandal is shaking Turkey, with the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) referring 1,024 professional football players to the Disciplinary Committee (PFDK).

The players include members of Galatasaray, Besiktas, and Trabzonspor. The referral is based on Article 57 of the Football Disciplinary Regulations.

In addition, 17 referees and the president of Eyüpspor were arrested, while warrants were issued for the former president of Kasimpasa and a businessman. The police operation took place in 13 cities.

The TFF announced that it is considering an extraordinary transfer period and has postponed matches of the TFF 2nd and 3rd League championships.
