Anorthosis will face a transfer embargo for two transfer periods after CAS rejected its appeal against FIFA's decision in the Elder Ferreira case. The ban concerns the summer transfer period of 2026 and the winter period of 2027.

FIFA initially ruled in favor of the player, finding that Anorthosis had not paid salaries and had not responded to a warning notice. FIFA had jurisdiction due to conflicting clauses in the contract and the 'Payment Plan,' as well as the failure to prove the impartiality of the Cyprus FA Dispute Resolution Committee.

The player was awarded a total of €185,000 (€137,000 in unpaid salaries and installments, €25,000 penalty clause, €23,000 compensation). FIFA imposed the transfer ban due to the violation within the protected period and Anorthosis' recidivism in similar cases.

The Ferreira case was more dangerous because the player was under 28 years old when he signed, and the breach of contract occurred within the three-year protected period. The 'Payment Plan' contained a clause giving jurisdiction to FIFA, trapping Anorthosis.

Despite attempts at compromise, Anorthosis did not respond in time, leading to the final punishment.
