Oblique Seville of Jamaica won the gold medal in the 100 meters at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, with a time of 9.77 seconds.

The 24-year-old athlete, whom Usain Bolt has described as his likely successor, set a new personal best in the race. Kishane Thompson finished second with 9.82, and Noah Lyles finished third with 9.89.

Letsile Tebogo from Botswana was disqualified due to a false start. Usain Bolt watched the race from the stands.

Seville celebrated his victory enthusiastically, and Bolt has stated that he believes Seville will break his world record in the 100 meters.
