Airsoft, a team sport combining strategy and action, is gaining ground in Cyprus but remains in a legal “gray area.” Despite its increasing popularity since 2008, the sport has not yet been officially recognized.

The Cyprus Airsoft Association (CAA), founded in 2022 and representing over 600 active players, has submitted a memorandum to the Parliament, requesting the legalization and regulation of airsoft. The CAA highlights the lack of provisions for equipment licensing, the ban on import and sale, and the misconception about the danger of replica guns.

Argyris Argyrou, president of the CAA, emphasized that legalization would strengthen the sport and provide reassurance to players. He also mentioned that airsoft promotes values such as discipline and teamwork.

In June 2024, the CAA met with the President of the Parliament, Ms. Annita Demetriou, to discuss the legal framework for airsoft in Cyprus.
