Anthony Hopkins: 'I Had No Idea I Was an Alcoholic'

Oscar-winning actor Anthony Hopkins reveals in his new book, 'We Did OK, Kid,' that he realized he was an alcoholic after a warning from his doctor.
At the age of 37, Hopkins was informed by his doctor that his health condition was equivalent to that of a 50 or 65-year-old man due to excessive alcohol consumption.
The doctor warned him about potential liver problems, cirrhosis, pancreatitis, and fluid in the lungs, advising him to quit smoking and reduce alcohol consumption.
Hopkins mentions that his memories from that period are hazy and that he had not realized his problem with alcohol.
A turning point was when he drove drunk in Beverly Hills, reaching Arizona without remembering what he had done. After this incident, he decided to quit drinking on December 29, 1975.
