NASA is collaborating with Google to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) medical assistant to care for crews on long-duration space missions. This system is essential due to communication delays with Earth, making real-time medical examination impossible.

The collaboration aims to create a “Clinical Decision Support System” (CDSS), which will be used on missions to the Moon and Mars. The digital assistant will provide automated diagnoses and suggest treatments.

According to Google, the AI system uses advanced natural language processing and machine learning techniques to provide real-time analysis of crew health and performance. Trials are ongoing with the help of doctors, and the initial results are encouraging.

This technology could also be applied to providing health services in remote areas of Earth.
