AI Stethoscope Detects Heart Conditions in 15 Seconds

A new artificial intelligence (AI) stethoscope can detect heart conditions in just 15 seconds, according to its manufacturers. The stethoscope was developed by researchers at Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

The new stethoscope can diagnose heart failure, heart valve disease, and abnormal heart rhythms. It analyzes minute differences in heartbeat and blood flow, while simultaneously taking a quick EGG.

In a study of 12,000 patients in the United Kingdom, those examined with the new tool were twice as likely to be diagnosed with heart failure and three times more likely to be diagnosed with atrial fibrillation.

Dr. Patrick Bechtiger stated that the smart stethoscope can be used for a 15-second examination, and the AI can quickly provide a result indicating whether someone has heart failure, atrial fibrillation, or heart valve disease.

The device is manufactured by California-based Eko Health.
