The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of the dangers of "black rain" and toxic compounds in Tehran's atmosphere following strikes on oil facilities.

Tehran was affected by black smoke after the bombing of a refinery as part of a military campaign. The WHO agreed with the Iranian authorities' recommendations for citizens to stay indoors.

The WHO received reports of oil-filled rain. The bombings caused the release of toxic hydrocarbons, sulfur oxides, and nitrogenous compounds. Inhaling or touching the smoke can cause headaches, irritation, and difficulty breathing, while long-term exposure increases the risk of cancer.

Christian Lindmeier, a WHO spokesperson, stated that black and acid rain pose a risk to the respiratory system.
