During the summer months, senior dogs are particularly vulnerable to heatwaves. Their natural defenses decrease with age, making them more prone to heatstroke, dehydration, and cardiac stress.

Prevention is key. Ensure your dog always has access to clean, cool water. Place bowls in various locations around the house, especially near their favorite resting spots.

On hot days, keep your dog in a cool area with a fan or air conditioning. Offer a cooling mat or a wet towel.

Walks should be taken early in the morning or late in the afternoon, avoiding hot pavement.

Never leave your dog alone in a parked vehicle.

Useful accessories include cooling vests and sunscreen for dogs. A summer grooming session can also help.

Be informed about the symptoms of heatstroke and contact your veterinarian immediately if you notice them.
