Walking and Exercise: How to Boost the Benefits

A new study reveals that combining walking with other activities can significantly enhance health benefits. The research examined the exercise habits of nearly 400,000 adults in the USA.
Urban residents often combine walking with running, weight training, and dancing, while rural residents prefer activities like gardening. However, only 25% of people who walk regularly meet the recommendations for aerobic exercise and muscle strengthening.
Walking offers many benefits, including weight management, reduction of visceral fat, mood improvement, and enhanced cardiovascular health. Gardening, on the other hand, enhances strength and provides exposure to vitamin D.
Experts recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise per week, as well as muscle-strengthening exercises twice a week. Exercise snacks, short bursts of movement, can also improve cardiorespiratory fitness.
Core strengthening, good posture, and regular stretching are important for injury prevention and overall well-being.
