A 14-year-old from Kefalonia, who was transferred to the Karamanthaneio Children's Hospital in Patras, has recovered from a rare syndrome after an acute respiratory deterioration.

Doctors diagnosed that an enterovirus caused inflammation in the central nervous system (acute idiopathic polyneuritis), a rare condition with a frequency of 0.81 to 1.91 cases per 100,000 people.

The syndrome caused paralysis, which fortunately was reversible. After extubation, the 14-year-old expressed her gratitude to the doctors and nurses.

The director of the Pediatric ICU, Andreas Iliadis, stated that the child's recovery was the best reward for the doctors.
