Non-Alcoholic Beer: Impacts on Sugar, Cholesterol – New Study
Share on:

A new study from Germany and the United States indicates that daily consumption of non-alcoholic beer may have negative effects on metabolism. The research, published in Nutrients, monitored 44 healthy men, with half consuming two bottles of non-alcoholic beer daily for four weeks.

Blood tests showed increases in sugar and insulin levels, trends of hyperinsulinemia, as well as increased levels of triglycerides and LDL cholesterol. Researchers attribute these metabolic effects to the sugar and calorie content of the drinks. Wheat and flavored beers showed a particular burden.

The study highlights that consuming non-alcoholic beer is not free of caloric and glycemic load and suggests that consumers choose beers without added sugar and avoid daily consumption.
