The Plenary of the Parliament approved two bills ratifying agreements between Cyprus and Greece for cross-kidney and lung transplants. The agreements were signed on September 19, 2024, in Athens.

The agreements institutionalize cooperation for organ exchange between donors and recipients and for lung transplants for Cypriot patients at the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center in Greece. Organs not used in Cyprus will be offered to the Hellenic Transplantation Organization.

A representative of the Ministry of Health stated that patients will be included in a larger database, increasing the chances of finding a donor. A similar agreement has been in place with Israel since 2017.

In Cyprus, transplants of kidneys and pancreas are performed.
