Fires: Toxic Particles in the Atmosphere – Health Risks

Frequent fires amid heatwaves cause concern due to the toxic particles released into the atmosphere. Stelios Loukidis, President of the Hellenic Pulmonology Society, highlights the risks for those suffering from chronic cardiorespiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
Masks, even enhanced FFP2/N95 types, do not provide adequate protection. The particles can cause asthma in children.
Mr. Loukidis also mentioned the increase in Covid cases and the risks from air conditioners, emphasizing that Legionnaires' disease is not exclusively related to them.
