Dangerous and Safe Scents for Pets at Home

Many use essential oils and air fresheners, but some scents are dangerous for pets, causing health problems. Fragrances, care products, detergents affect dogs and cats.
Pets are sensitive to oils with phenols, absorbed through skin, nose, and mouth. Cats are at greater risk due to fewer liver enzymes. These oils can burn the skin and mouth.
Essential oils to avoid: tea tree, mint, citrus, pine, cinnamon, eucalyptus, clove, thyme, ylang-ylang, pennyroyal. Avoid liquid potpourri.
Symptoms of poisoning: red lips/tongue, vomiting, lethargy, weakness, shortness of breath, tremors, drooling, loss of balance, runny nose/eyes. Call a veterinarian immediately.
Safe essential oils: lavender, frankincense, chamomile, ginger, rosemary, cedarwood.
You don't have to give up fragrances, but know which are toxic. In case of poisoning, visit the veterinarian immediately.
