EODY: Aspergillus Concentration Decreasing at Ag. Savvas Hospital

A team from the National Public Health Organization (EODY) visited the Ag. Savvas General Anticancer Hospital on 17/07/2025, following a report of a case of invasive aspergillosis.
According to EODY, four samplings have been carried out from 25/06/2025 to 19/08/2025 in 15 areas of the hospital. Fungi such as Aspergillus fumigatus and Rhizopus arrhizus were found.
In the latest cultures, no Rhizopus spp strains were found outside the construction areas, while the concentration of Aspergillus spp strains is steadily decreasing.
EODY emphasizes that the interpretation of the results requires caution, as Aspergillus spp strains are normally found in the air. Recommendations for strict implementation of infection prevention and control measures remain in effect.
EODY is cooperating with the hospital's Nosocomial Infections Committee.
