COVID-19 Vaccine: An Ally in Cancer Treatment?

New research suggests that patients with advanced lung or skin cancer who received an mRNA vaccine against COVID-19 within 100 days of starting immunotherapy lived significantly longer compared to unvaccinated patients.
The study analyzed medical records of over 1,000 patients with stage 3 and 4 non-small cell lung cancer or metastatic melanoma, treated from 2019 to 2023 at the 'MD Anderson' cancer center.
Receiving an mRNA vaccine against Covid-19 within 100 days of starting immunotherapy was associated with a significantly longer lifespan, particularly in patients not expected to have a strong immunological response.
