Greece: Two Deaths from West Nile Virus

Two deaths and twelve new cases of West Nile virus have been recorded in Greece, according to the latest report from EODY. These are the first deaths recorded this year from the virus.
In total, 47 cases have been recorded since the beginning of the season, with 41 showing manifestations from the Central Nervous System (CNS), such as encephalitis or meningitis. One imported case was recorded in a patient exposed in Serbia.
Of the 11 patients hospitalized, 2 are in the ICU. Areas where exposure to the virus is estimated to have occurred include Aspropyrgos, Elefsina, Larissa, Karditsa and Alexandroupoli, among others.
