Australia: Twins Discover IVF Error After DNA Test
Share on:

Twin sisters in Australia discovered they have different biological parents after a DNA test. The test revealed an error that occurred during in-vitro fertilization (IVF).

Sasha Szfranski took the DNA test seeking information about her family's Polish heritage. Instead, she discovered that a woman living in the same town was her maternal aunt.

Further investigation revealed that this woman's sister was the biological mother of Sasha and her twin sister. The Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney allegedly mistakenly implanted the wrong embryo into Penny Szfranski in 1995.

This case is the second to come to light in Australia regarding errors in IVF. Both families have hired lawyers and contacted the hospital.
