Air Pollution Linked to Alzheimer's: New Study
Share on:

New research from Emory University links air pollution to an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. The study, published in 'PLOS Medicine,' analyzed data from over 27.8 million Medicare beneficiaries in the US, aged 65 and older, from 2000 to 2018.

The researchers found that greater exposure to air pollution was associated with an increased risk of Alzheimer's. The association was stronger in individuals with a history of stroke. The findings suggest that air pollution may contribute to the development of the disease through direct mechanisms affecting the brain.

Alzheimer's disease affects approximately 57 million people worldwide. The study highlights the importance of improving air quality for preventing dementia and protecting older adults.
