Cat Allergies: Symptoms and Treatment
Allergies affect not only humans but also cats, although less frequently compared to dogs. When a cat develops an allergy, the problem can become serious, affecting its respiratory system and causing skin lesions.
According to veterinarian Anna Bardani, the rates of animals exhibiting allergies have increased. Allergies can be seasonal (e.g., pollen) or due to allergens in the home.
Allergens in the home: Detergents, air fresheners, strong cleaners, bleach.
Symptoms:
- Respiratory: Difficulty breathing, coughing (feline asthma).
- Skin: Intense itching, abrasions, hair loss, pimples.
External parasites: Fleas can cause dermatitis.
Food allergies: Can cause skin or gastrointestinal problems (vomiting, diarrhea). Treatment includes hypoallergenic food.
Treatment: Contact your veterinarian for appropriate treatment, which may include pills or inhalers.
