Warm Welcome in Athens for 'Bronze' National Basketball Team

The Greek National Basketball Team returned to Athens from Riga, Latvia, where they won the bronze medal at Eurobasket 2025. A large crowd welcomed the team at the 'Eleftherios Venizelos' airport with flags and applause.

Vasilis Spanoulis, the team's coach, stated: 'We wanted to bring basketball back to the top. This generation deserves it.' Giannis Antetokounmpo, visibly tired, mentioned that he had not slept all night.

The president of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK), Vangelis Liolios, emphasized that this medal, after 16 years, will give a boost to Greek basketball. The team captain, Kostas Papanikolaou, expressed hope that this success will make new children love basketball.

Giorgos Mavrotas, president of the General Secretariat of Sports (GGA), thanked the team for the joy and pride they offered to Greece.
