First Hospice for Cancer Patients and Companions Opens in Prosfygika

A new hospice for cancer patients and their companions has opened near Agios Savvas in Prosfygika, Athens. The hospice aims to provide support to people from the provinces who face difficulties during their treatment.
The Prosfygika building complex, historically built to house refugees from Asia Minor, now houses the Community of Occupied Prosfygika, a form of self-organization that creates structures to meet the needs of residents.
The Community's Health Structure undertook the creation and operation of the hospice, responding to the need for affordable accommodation near the Agios Savvas oncology hospital. Many patients and their companions are forced to sleep in cars due to the high cost of accommodation in Athens.
The hospice has two rooms with two beds each, a kitchen and a washing machine, offering decent living conditions. The maintenance of the hospice will be fully covered by the Prosfygika community, in collaboration with the 'Agios Savvas' Workers' Union.
The creation of the hospice is an initiative of solidarity, aimed at covering the shortcomings of the state mechanism and providing support to those in need.
