Emeritus Professor of Latin Philology and former Dean of the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA), Eleni Karamalengou, has passed away.

The news of her death spread sadness throughout the university community. As announced by EKPA, Eleni Karamalengou was a prominent and influential figure, a pioneer with vision.

Eleni Karamalengou paved the way for EKPA's collaboration with universities in the People's Republic of China, and she was the inspiration behind the first English-language undergraduate program in Greece, the 'BA Program in the Archaeology, History and Literature of Ancient Greece' (BAAG).

The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 12:30 PM at the Vyronas Cemetery.

The School of Philosophy and its Library will remain closed on the day of the funeral as a sign of respect.
