Rowling vs. Watson: 'She's Irrelevant Because She's Rich'

J.K. Rowling has launched a public attack on Emma Watson regarding the actress's views on trans rights. Rowling argued that Watson, due to her wealth and fame, has no experience of real life and is unaware of the consequences of her positions.

The dispute began when Watson, known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, expressed her support for the trans community, distancing herself from Rowling's views. Rowling, who has been accused of transphobia, is concerned about the 'erosion of the concept of biological sex'.

Rowling stated that the turning point in her feelings came in 2022 when Watson appeared to make an insinuation against Rowling at the BAFTA awards. Rowling felt betrayed when Watson sent her a handwritten note with a single phrase: 'I'm so sorry for what you're going through,' during threats against her.

Rowling argued that Watson will never need to use public spaces to which the author opposes access for trans people, due to the protection afforded by her wealth.
