Tsipras: Delaying Announcements About New Party?
Share on:

Alexis Tsipras is reportedly delaying announcements about the establishment of his new party, postponing developments until the fall, according to a report by protothema.gr. While there was initial pressure for announcements after Easter, the latest information points to October.

According to the report, the former prime minister wishes to proceed with a "rebranding" and listen to the needs of society, having resigned as a Member of Parliament in October 2025. The reasons for the delay include the need for organizational readiness and the emergence of new faces.

Furthermore, Tsipras is reportedly seeking to disorganize SYRIZA and New Left, from which the main volume of the new party's executives is expected to come. His goal is to create a leader-centric party, without factions and groups.

In SYRIZA, the "pro-Tsipras faction" is in the majority, while in New Left there are disagreements regarding cooperation with Tsipras, leading to potential splits and the independence of MPs. At the same time, executives such as Efi Achtsioglou and Nasos Iliopoulos are considered likely fellow travelers of Tsipras.

The divisions in the political space favor the KKE, Varoufakis, and Tsipras, while the decision of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis regarding the timing of the elections will also determine future developments.
