"Spartiates": Acquitted on Appeal for Deceiving Voters

The Tripoli Appeals Court of Misdemeanors unanimously acquitted the 13 defendants in the "Spartiates" party case on charges of deceiving the electorate. The decision concerns 11 current and former MPs, Ilias Kasidiaris (accused of moral instigation), and a lawyer.
The case began after statements by the head of the "Spartiates", Vasilis Stigas, regarding mafia-like methods and shadow leadership within the party, which he later retracted. The court accepted the prosecutor's proposal and ruled that deception of voters had not been proven.
At first instance, the Single-Member Appeals Court of Misdemeanors had also acquitted the defendants.
