Russia Hopes for Boost in Cyprus Negotiations After New York Meeting

The Russian Foreign Ministry has expressed hope that the implementation of the agreements reached in New York (July 16-17) will strengthen trust between the communities in Cyprus and boost negotiations on the Cyprus issue.

Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow is monitoring the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and reaffirmed Russia's commitment to the UN Security Council resolutions for the resolution of the Cyprus issue.

Zakharova emphasized the need for a compromise to be found by the island's residents themselves, taking into account the interests of both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.
