The Minister of Migration and Asylum, Thanos Plevris, stated that the monument of the Unknown Soldier should remain dedicated to those who died for the country's freedom.

Referring to the names of the victims of the Tempi tragedy that have been written on the monument, Mr. Plevris said that they are not offensive, but should not be there. He added that the protest can take place elsewhere.

Mr. Plevris reiterated that the monument of the Unknown Soldier was created to honor those who died for the homeland and that most Greeks believe that the character of the monument should not be changed.

Finally, he mentioned that the issue started because the Municipality of Athens was unable to restore the monument to its proper condition.
