The Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, stated in Parliament that strengthening defense is a top strategic priority for the government, within the framework of Greece's participation in the SAFE program.

Mr. Pierrakakis emphasized that defense is a national matter and a priority for national survival. Participation in SAFE allows for the upgrading of the country's equipment planning, with annual equipment deliveries increasing from €2.3 billion in 2026 to approximately €2.6 billion from 2028 onwards.

Furthermore, he referred to the cooperation between EAS and MSM export for the establishment of a joint stock company in Lavrio, stressing that it is a model of strategic partnership and strengthens the Greek defense industry.

Greece submitted three investment proposals under the ASAP Regulations, two of which were approved, ranking Greece 5th among the 28 countries that participated in the competition.

Mr. Pierrakakis pointed out that the government is officially submitting to the EU the expression of interest for low-interest loans of at least €1.2 billion from the new SAFE mechanism.
