Dimitris Stamatis, Former ND Minister, Passes Away

Dimitris Stamatis, former minister and member of parliament for New Democracy (ND), has passed away at the age of 75 after a long battle with a serious illness.
Born in Thessaloniki, he studied at the Law School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He was first elected as a member of parliament for Thessaloniki A in 1985 with New Democracy.
He served as Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, as well as Secretary General of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. In addition, he was chairman of the Deposits and Loans Fund.
In June 2012, he was sworn in as Minister of State in the tripartite government of Antonis Samaras.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his condolences, emphasizing that Dimitris Stamatis honored the Parliament and Thessaloniki. Condolences were also expressed by Antonis Samaras, Adonis Georgiadis, Kostis Hatzidakis, Kyriakos Pierrakakis and Andreas Loverdos.
