OPEKEPE: Clash in Parliament Over Investigative Committee
Share on:

Political debate continues in Parliament today regarding the proposal to establish an Investigative Committee concerning the OPEKEPE scandal. The discussion is expected to focus on the proposals of PASOK, SYRIZA, and New Left for felony charges against former ministers Makis Voridis and Lefteris Avgenakis.

Yesterday, during the discussion on the Examination Committee, there was a heated debate between Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Nikos Androulakis, as well as between the Prime Minister and Zoe Konstantopoulou.

Mr. Avgenakis is expected to refer to the referral of the case file by the European Public Prosecutor's Office without charges, as well as the resignation of former governor Vangelis Simantrakos. He will also respond to allegations about the "red VAT numbers", emphasizing that he was informed about it in March 2024 by the new governor of OPEKEPE, Kyriakos Babasidis.

Mr. Voridis is expected to legally deconstruct the proposals for a Preliminary Inquiry, arguing that there is no substantial evidence to justify his referral.

Mr. Mitsotakis attacked Nikos Androulakis, accusing PASOK and SYRIZA of long-standing scandals in agricultural subsidies.
