The Minister of Interior, Thodoris Livanios, announced that the government is considering introducing electronic voting in the 2028 local elections. According to the minister, 400 polling stations will be created throughout the country, where voters will use booths with tablets instead of ballots.

In addition, the second round in the local elections is abolished. The mayor will be elected by the candidate who gets 42% of the votes. If no candidate achieves this percentage, the second alternative vote will be taken into account.

Mr. Livanios also referred to the implementation of postal voting for Greeks abroad in the European elections, while for the national elections there is a constitutional doubt. New Democracy will propose its establishment in the next constitutional revision.

Regarding voters residing in a different municipality than their registered one, the creation of polling stations per island or large municipality is being considered, in order to facilitate their participation in the elections.

Finally, the minister referred to the bill on the evaluation of heads of departments in the public sector, which will be done through a written electronic competition of ASEP.
