Professor of Geology and Natural Disaster Management, Efthymios Lekkas, referred to the 5.3 Richter earthquake that occurred in Thesprotia in the early hours of Sunday.

As he stated on Mega television, the seismic activity in the area exhibits the characteristics of a swarm earthquake, i.e. a swarm of earthquakes without a clearly larger earthquake.

Mr. Lekkas noted that the development of the phenomenon is considered relatively smooth, despite the frequency of the tremors, and that the smaller tremors help to release the accumulated energy. He also stressed that the schools will remain closed by decision of the mayors.

"The phenomena will continue, this will be annoying for the residents. It is a peculiar case there because we are dealing with rocks that swell there and create various processes. It is a peculiar geotectonic environment," he characteristically stated.
